The primary idea of the Flute Meeting and Festival is to bring together students and professors from Music Academies across the region—Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia—to showcase flute music. Each country will present works by its national composers, ranging from established composers to young composition students at their music academies, performed in various settings, from solo flute pieces to flute ensembles.

The oldest musical instrument in the world, a 60,000-year-old Neanderthal flute is a treasure of global significance. It was discovered in 1995 in Divje babe cave near Cerkno (Slovenia) and has been declared by experts to have been made by Neanderthals.
